REGIONAL NEWS Summer 2005
Region I: Pennsylvania
♦
Friars
of the Pennsylvania Region gathered at Saint Joseph’s Friary,
Hollidaysburg, on May 2 to celebrate the feast of Saint Joseph the
Worker. Evening Prayer was celebrated, followed by soup and
sandwiches and a wonderful evening of fraternity. All the friars
commented that it is good to gather, especially on special
occasions, as an opportunity to enjoy the company of other friars
from the region.
Region IV: Minnesota
♦ The
annual Summerfest celebration at Saint Bridget Church, Minneapolis,
was a great success. John Kerr managed the publicity for the
event. The theme, “Ten Years, Ten-Thousand Smiles,” was submitted by
a parishioner as part of a contest. There were lots of smiles,
particularly on the faces of the parishioners and neighborhood
children during his half hour in the dunk tank! The follow-up event
to the parish festival is an ice cream social. John and others from
the parish will be walking the neighborhood with invitations. They
will also be inviting people to a town hall meeting on August 22 to
discuss the Living Wage issue. City Council members, state
officials, and neighboring churches are already planning to be
there.
